

New President ElectedSunday around noon the IBF annual general meeting (AGM) here in Seville elected a new president.The current president, mdm. Lu Shengrong, China, had expressed desire to withdraw after a record 8 year in office. The election was unusual, because as many as 3 candidates has announced their candidacy, and a hard contest was expected. Beforehand the support was evenly distributed, with a small advantage for the Sultan of Brunei. But he withdrew shortly before the meeting, and left was only IBF vice-president Justian Suhandinata, Indonesia, and former deputy prime minister of Thailand, Korn Dabbaransi. Korn Dabbaransi won a clear victory, 180 votes against 29. The 55 year old president elect said in af IBF press release after the meeting: "If Badminton is to survive, we need to work harder to make ourselves more visible in front of the world" "We must diversify across the five continental regions and I want to establish full-time offices in each of those regions which must be tangibly utilized to this effect." The new president is already at work cleaning up the number of subcomittees under the IBF. Some comitee members was told on days notice, that the meeting they where supposed to attend had been canceled, because the comittee itself was cancelled. |
