Individual World ChampionshipsLast sunday was the first day of the World Championships here in Seville.According to official figures, 532 players from 52 countries has entered. The largest delegation of players are from China, sendind 26. England is second with 25, while Denmark and Germany each has entered 21. On the other end of the statistics Guatemala is representet by the lonely Pedro Yang, and Italy and Faroe Islands each send af pair of men's singles. First on the agenda is the 1. stage, reserved for players not topping the IBF world ranking lists. This stage is a 2 day mini-turnament with up to 4 matches for a successfull, low ranked player. It is also known as the qualifier. From each draw 8 players progress to the 2. stage or main turnamet. Denmark did not have players in the 1. stage - but all the above mentioned small countries did.
ResultPedro Yang of Guatemala won 3 matches, agains Truels Barth-Nielsen, Norway, Kyle Hunter of Nigeria, and Petr Martinec of Czech Republic. In the 4. match he had to bow out to Yousuke Hakanishi, who entered the main draw as on of the 8 men's singles. Today he faces a tough match, meeting the current 2. world champion, Fung Permadi of Chinese Taipei.Klause Raffeiner, Italy, won against Pavel Uvarov, Russia and Israel Gutierrez, Mexico, before being eliminated by Jan Frohlich, Czech Republic. Jan Frolich entered the main tournament, because he later beat Jean-Michel Lefort, France. Alexander Theiner, Italy, got one match:
