Mixed Double Finals

   Zhang Jun/Gao Ling, CHN
   - Dong Moon Kim/Kyung Min Ra, KOR               15-10, 12-15, 17-16

How close can you get! In the first game Zhang and Gao dominated for the most part, even though Kim/Ra scored the first few points. In the 2. game it was more even, but still with at chinese lead until 12-10. Then the koreans took the game on their first and second serve. The 3. game whent almost after the same pattern, a korean initiative during the first few plays, then the chinese regaining and opening up a lead. This time they where ahead 13-8 - got 1. game and match point on 14-9, but Kim/Ra managed to even to 14-14. In the play for 17 they managed 16-14 before loosing the serve. The chinese came back, and won 17-16 on 2. serve.

Total time of play nearly 1 1/2 hour.

Semi Finals

No. 1. MS:

   Peter Gade, DEN
   - Cheng Hong, CHN                               17-14, 15-2

National Coach Kenneth Larsen and Peter Gade had laid out a strategi to keep playing at the net. That left Cheng Hong with little room to move and that decided the game early on.Cheng Hong did have a say in the end of first game, when Peter tried a more varied play.

No. 2. LS:

   Cong Ruina, CHN
   - Gong Zhicaho, CHN                             13-10, 11-4

A somewhat surprising result. Gong Zhichao was considered the strongest chinese player at the moment.

No. 1. MD:

   Halim Haryanto/Tony Gunawan, INA
   - Chew Dhoon Eng/Chan Chon Ming, MAS            ?-15, 15-5, 15-13

Another even and exciting Men's Doubles match. 3. game very even until 13-13.

No. 2. LS:

   Zhou Mi, CHN
   - Zhang Ning, CHN                               11-5, 11-9

No. 1. MS:

   Hendrawan, INA
   - Taufik Hadayat, INA                           11-15, 15-5, 1-7, ab.

Running to the net, leading 7-1 in 3. game, Taufik suffered an injury seemingly to his right upper thigh. He tried to play after treatment with a spray, but then he went to the umpire and withdrew.

Officially he broke his adductor muscle in the right groin. We found this page listing the various musclegroup in the thigh.

   - Jiang Xuelian/Chen Lin, CHN                   WO

Jiang Xuelian was injured during the 1/4 final match against Rikke Olsen/Helene Kirkegaard, Denmark, yesterday.

No. 1. MD:

   Dim Dong Moon/Ha Tae Kwon, KOR
   - Lee Wan Wah/Choong Tan Fook, MAS              15-7, 9-15, 15-10

The boys in Men's Doubles just don't give up today! This was the last match and it lastet 85 minutes. Hard work all around! Sometimes it is unfair, that there has to be a winner...
