No. 10 - LS1 Zhang Ning, CHN
- Judith Meulendijks, NED
7-5, 7-1, 7-3
This match had been played, when we arrived at the venue.
No. 11 - MD2 Chow Choon Eng/Chan Choong Ming, MAS
- Zhang Jun/Zhang Wei, CHN
6-9, 9-7, 4-9, 9-6, 9-5
A very even match. Both teams held their serve for several points during most of the games. In the 2., 4. and 5. game near the end we where treated with an impressive long volley, that got the crowd cheering. No. 12 - MS2 Luo Yigang, CHN
- Pullela Gopichand, IND
7-1, 7-1, 7-0
Nothing worked for Gopi in this match. He did manage to take serves away from
Lou Yigang in the first game, but not able to score. His netplay was weak, never
quite clearing the net and a lot of his long shots was out. Lou Yigang took more control
and in the 3. game Gopi only was allowed 2 serve chances.
No. 13 - MD1
Sigit Budiarto/Candra Wijaya, INA
- Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen, DEN
9-7, 10-8, 8-10, 9-2
The danes in their 2. match thought they played better than in the first. They said so after the game to danish TV2. And they did indeed start out strong in each game, getting ahead 4-1 in the first 2 games. Both games was won by Sigit/Chandra. In the 3. game, the indonesian broke the danes starting game, by getting the first point. But again Lars/Jonas got a 4-1 lead. Actually - if the match had been played 5 x 7, then the danes would have won (7-5, 7-6, 7-5) - a fact that was discussed after the game. But Lars Paaske was adamant about it. He prefers 5 x 9, because it gives the players an opportunity to get back in the game. After a well played and exiting 3. game, where the danes won on their 4. gamepoint, they lost the initiative. The 4. games was very short. Sigit/Chandra got 8-1 on their second serve round. Sigit Budiarto/Chandra Wijaya are the first mens doubles to qualify for the finals tomorrow. |
