"The Presidents Awards"

During the official opening of the 1998 European Championships Poul Erik Høyer, Denmark, was awarded with EBU's "Presidents Award". The award was established by former EBU Presidents, Stellan Mohlin, Sweden and Herman Valken, Netherlands, for the EBU 25 anniversary in 1992.

The award is given for: "Distinctive Service to the game in an international context, when such an occasion arises."

It was only the second time the award was given. In 1992 Joseph R. Benés, Czech Republic received the award and in 1998 Poul Erik Høyer, Denmark.

When EBU President Torsten Berg, Denmark, presented the award to Poul Erik Høyer he said: "You receive the award for your fair play and your behavior on and off the court, for your promotion of our sport and not least because of your fine results."
