Club Championship 2006The end of the season is traditionally marked by the League The 2005/2006 season winners are Greve GSB and Hvidovre BC. This is the first season where a new, shorter format has been used. Each Club provides 6 teams – one of each of Ladies Singles and Doubles, Mens Doubles and Mixed Doubles and two Mens Singles. During the season all 6 matches are played – allowing for ties – but not in the finals. Here the final are over, if one club has won 4 mathces. If it ends in a tie – 3-3 – a 'golden set' match is played with a specially selected mixed double. The winner of the set wins the final. The format is best of 3 to 15, which also marks the last time that is used in an official match in Denmark. The order of play is chosen by the team leaders. Greve had the first selection, then Hvidovre and so on. The order was decided yesterday. 1. Men's Singles Kenneth Jonassen, Greve vs. Anders Boesen, Hvidovre Before: Greves team leader and playing coach Kenneth Jonassen has selected his match as the first one. Anders Boesen is regaining strength, but Kenneth is still the favorite to win this one for Greve. IBF world ranking nr. 8 versus no. 35. The match developed as expected. Anders Boesen was not up to his former strength and Kenneth Jonassen won the match for Greve 15-2, 15-7 1. Mixed Double Michael Lamp/Pernille Levinsky, Greve vs. Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms, Hvidovre. Before: A shure thing for Hvidovre. Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms are IBF world ranking no. 1 and Greve has chosen to save experienced Majken Vange for the Ladies Doubles, replacing her with young Pernille Levinsky. No surprise – after an even start in the first game, Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms won 15-5, 15-1. The two first matches was played in parallel and finished about the same time – with an overall even score of 1-1. 1. Men's Doubles Mathias Boe/Lars Paaske, Greve, vs. Jesper Larsen/Jens Eriksen, Hvidovre. Before: Great names in danish Mens Doubles – new and old – but Jesper Larsen is semi-retired and has not played international for a long time – so Greve is the favorite. This match turned out to be the most open of them all. Jesper Larsen/Jens Eriksen came out strong and won the first game 15-12. But they fell apart in the 2. game, and the favorites got an easy 15-1 win. They also startede out strong in the 3. game, but Hvidovre came back and the upset was within reach when they got the match ball. But they failed, and Mathias Boe/Lars Paaske fought back for a decider. They too lost a match ball, but they won in the end 17-15. 1. Ladies Doubles Mie Schiøtt-Kristensen/Majken Vange, Greve, vs. Britta Andersen/Mette Schjoldager, Hvidovre. Before: Strong lineup – but Britta Andersen/Mette Schjoldager are the new national champions in Ladies Doubles, so Hvidovre is the expected winner here. |

1. Ladies Singles Pi Hongyan, Greve, vs. Tracey Hallam, Hvidovre. Before: World ranking nr. 4 from France, Pi Hongyan, meets ranking no. 10, Tracey Hallam, England. In IBF-matches since 2002 Pi leads 3-1, and she also beat Tracey in the League regular match ealier in the season. Greve is the favorite here. And so it happened. Tracey Hallam did her regular powerful flying around, but Pi Hongyan played wiser, and won 11-3, 11-4. 2. Men's Singles Jens-Kristian Leth, Greve, vs. Joachim Persson, Hvidovre. Before: Two of the young danish talents meets again. But Joachim Persson has just won Austrian Open and Jens-Kristian Leth has never won a match between the two, playing best of 3 to 15. Hvidovre is expected to win this one, and if everything goes as expected it will now be a tie 3-3. It was the last – and only – match so everbodys attention was focused on that one from the start. The two knows each other well, and soon Joachim Perssons greater experience and confidence allowed him to pull ahead. But Jens-Kristian Leth had moments of great plays and most of the time the scoring was slow. Joachim Persson won 15-11, 15-9 for Hvidovre, and the regular play ended in at 3-3 tie as expected. Golden Set decision Hvidovre reentered Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson as their champions, while Greve selected Lars Paaske and Majken Vange – a very experienced pair but still not at the level of Hvidovres super Mixed Double. But in the beginning it was fairly even, until 3-3 and 4-4. But then Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson had warmed up by then, and went ahead to 8-4 and 12-6. Then Majken Vange and Lars Paaske stopped the progress, and fought back to close the gap. But they made to may errors, and 12-9 was the closest the came. The one-set solution ende 15-10. Hvidovre thus the new club champions for the 2005/2006 league season.
